This professional learning community (PLC) is for anyone who is a Health/P.E. educator in a school setting in Massachusetts. Health/P.E. Teachers are often the only people in their buildings specializing in this subject. This PLC will be a place for Health/P.E. educators from across schools and districts to network, share in problems of practice, develop ideas, and learn together on developments in the field. We’ll be gathering in our virtual meetings as partners and be in communication throughout.
This PLC is participant-driven and topics will be decided by the group with facilitation by Dr. Denae Dostal. Topics of our conversation may include:
- Empowering Health/P.E. teachers to implement the new MA standards
- Exploring challenges faced by Health/P.E. teachers
- Sharing example problems of our practice as a group and conferring together about potential solutions
- Exploring resources that can address the needs of students of the global majority and other marginalized communities
- Collaborating with other educators
We’ll be meeting for 8 sessions, hybrid or online, once a month between September 2024 – May 2025. After the first PLC meeting in the season, future session dates will be set by the group members, and the facilitator will be working with the group to accomodate members' schedules. If you have missed the first meeting, please know that you can still sign up for and attend the PLC! For questions about dates, process or other PLC matters, please email imartinez@collaborative.org.
If you attend at least 6 sessions, participate actively, and complete a final presentation or reflection, you can receive 15 PDPs in content, so please come prepared to share (confidentially of course) any current situations, questions you have, and your expertise.
The sessions will follow a structure to support our work which will look like:
- Welcome and review of agenda
- Conversations about our shared practice
- Protocol to help focus the conversation
- Closing and gratitude
Please note: If you would like PDPs, you will need to choose the $100 registration option. This fee covers the cost of administering PDPs. While participants can join at any time, PDPs are only provided to those who attend at least 6 sessions.
