This workgroup will help all educators to
- strengthen their skills for working with ELL students and others who need language support,
- design curricula for these students, or
- gain further practice working with content that is part of the SEI endorsement course.
Each in-person session is an opportunity to be hands-on with your own materials, receive feedback and guidance from a qualified instructor, and gain practical strategies to make learning effective, efficient, and fun for students. Each week will focus on a different topic.
Week 1 will explore language objectives—how they relate to content objectives, and how to create them, use them, and support them.
Week 2 will explore crafting authentic assessments (both formative and summative) with an eye toward meeting content and language objectives and providing data for effective instructional decisions.
Week 3 will explore strategies to support ELL students’ access to content instruction through evidence-based reading, writing, and vocabulary interventions.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials to work with during sessions, and can attend any or all of these stand-alone events according to their needs.
