Our friend William (Bill) Erickson, Ed.D. passed away this past Sunday. Many of you knew Bill, and he will be missed as a true gentleman and someone with a great passion for education and educators. Bill retired from his position as Superintendent of the Hampshire Regional School District and its member towns in 2005, after a 43-year career as a teacher in Auburn and Hadley, a Middle School Principal in Easthampton, and a Superintendent of Schools in Vermont and in the Hampshire Regional Schools. He also served for a short time as an Interim Superintendent for Northampton Public Schools.
After retiring from Hampshire Regional, Dr. Erickson served as the administrative consultant for the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) and as a Program Coordinator for Practicum candidates in the CES Licensure program. He was the Executive Secretary of the Connecticut Valley Superintendents RoundTable, and served as a staff associate and search consultant for the New England School Development Council, and a Lions Club Secretary in Southampton, where he and his wife, Joy, have lived for over 45 years. His avid interest in educational policy continued in recent years to be put to good use as a researcher and chronicler of news and opinion of importance to school leaders. He was awarded the prestigious Christos Daoulas Award by his colleagues in the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents.
