AMHERST — In keeping with its tradition of being a sanctuary and a welcoming community, school officials this week told parents the district will continue to teach and serve El Salvadoran immigrants who might lose their federal Temporary Protected Status.
President Donald J. Trump’s administration announced Monday it would end the protected status for people from El Salvador in September 2019.
Temporary Protected Status allows residents of certain countries to remain in the U.S. because conditions in their homeland are too dangerous to return. The status must be periodically updated for each country.
