HEC Academy Math Content teacher Randall Bessette was recognized at the recent awards dinner held by the Northampton Special Education Parents Advisory council.
Randall was nominated by a Northampton HEC Academy student, who felt that Bessette’s skills made learning Math fun, and therefore easier to remember. The student’s submission noted that, “It is because of Randall that I had my first Math class that I actually enjoyed. And, throughout this school year…I have slowly but surely begun to like doing Math more. Not because he makes his Math classes super fun, not to say, that he doesn’t, but because Randall was able to help me rewire my brain and, find ways not to get around my challenges but, to push through them. Randall explains everything that he teaches. And, he won’t stop until you understand why. He is especially good at teaching different ways to solve the same problem so that, you can find the way that is easiest for you.”
Our warmest congratulations to Randall, and thank you to Rain!
An approved alternative special education high school, HEC Academy, run by the Collaborative for Educational Services, serves students of average or above average intelligence, who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and/or social-emotional challenges. Given their struggles within the traditional educational setting, ALPs students have had difficulty achieving the success of which they are capable, and have demonstrated the need for more intensive academic, social and emotional supports than most public schools can provide.
