BOSTON, MA – On May 27th, honored guests, youth, staff, and community stakeholders gathered to spotlight the positive successes and work of DYS youth and programs at the hugely successful 3rd Annual DYS ‘Share Your Art, Share Your Voice!’ event.
Lieutenant Governor Karen Polito shared an inspiring message with an auditorium packed with youth, families and staff. Guest speakers Rev. Jeffrey Brown from Rebuilding Every Community Around Peace, and Clementina Chery from the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute also supported the event and delivered positive messages to match the uplifting tone of the day.
On display at the jam-packed event were youth artworks, Shakespearian monologues, improvisational theatre, and Ghanaian drumming – just to name a few. All the creativity showcased was developed by youth in the care of DYS and highlighted how DYS uses arts education as a youth engagement strategy and as an opportunity for positive youth development.
The 2015 DYS Statewide event also featured display tables of its programs and community partnerships where guests met and spoke with the youth artists, learned more about the various services, and participated in hands-on demonstrations and educational activities.
One hundred and sixty pieces of youth artwork and items were sold in less than 3 hours, and more than 300 guests attended what was an incredibly energizing and inspiring event.
Thank you to all our statewide programs, staff, youth and partners and who traveled to the event and helped make this showcase incredibly successful.
Thank you for supporting our young people through the 2015 Share Your Art, Share Your Voice!
